Where does the Mediterranean ecosystem extend?

This question is on many people’s minds, and if you were to ask them about the Mediterraneanecosystem, they would immediately think of places like Spain, Italy, Greece… However, the Mediterranean ecosystem is not only found in the Mediterranean basin. Let us explain.
The Mediterranean ecosystem extends to places with a Mediterranean climate. This climate is characterized by warm and dry summers, which can be a challenging time for animal survival. They must exhibit strong adaptations to cope with the lack of water during periods of intense heat.
It’s called the Mediterranean Climate because it is mainly distributed in this area, although it’s not the only one. Certain areas of Chile, the United States, South Africa, as well as Australia, also experience a Mediterranean climate
and typical ecosystem.
Furthermore, it’s important to mention that the Mediterranean ecosystem is considered a biodiversity “hot spot.” This means that despite its limited space, it harbors a great diversity of plants and animals, partly due to this characteristic climate. Therefore, many conservation efforts should focus on preserving this remarkable ecosystem.
